Kendal Hills Stud and George Teague Jr. have proudly announced that Southwind Lynx, winner of two $1-million races at age three, has been retired from racing and will be standing stud in Ontario at Kendal Hills
.
Southwind Lynx p,2,1:51.4; 3,1:48.3 ($1,763,830) is the richest, and second fastest son of Real Artist and is out of the stakes winning Jate Lobell mare Luxury Class p,3,1:54.4f ($101,632). Luxury Class is a half sister to three in 1:53 and six in 1:55 including Ultra Jet p,3,1:51.1 ($756,571) and Execujet p,3,1:50.4 ($359,152).
A stakes winner at two, Southwind Lynx took his freshman mark in winning the Grand Circuit's International Stallion Stakes at the Red Mile in 1:51.1.
He came back at three and accomplished the very rare feat of winning two $1-million races in his sophomore season when he captured the Art Rooney Pace at Yonkers Raceway and the Meadowlands Pace at the Meadowlands Racetrack (the only other pacers to do that in the last 10 years are Rocknroll Hanover and Well Said).
Southwind Lynx took his lifetime mark in his next start after the Pace when he blistered the Meadowlands in 1:48.3 in winning the Oliver Wendell Holmes. That same season, he also won the James Dancer at Freehold while finishing second in the final of the Cane Pace, and eliminations of the Little Brown Jug and the Breeders Crown.
When asked about his abilities, Tim Tetrick, who drove him for most of his three-year-old year replied, "What a fast horse --- if he came off cover he could just swoop the field. I always liked his size --- not too big, not too small --- which maybe made him so durable and able to get around every sized track. I'll take another like him any day."
Trainer George Teague remarked, "'Lynx' had the determination that allowed him to win two $1 million races at three. And he has a great maternal line to go along with his gorgeous looks. I'll be breeding four or five mares to him myself, including Rainbow Blue."
Southwind Lynx will stand in 2012 for a fee of $4,000. Inquiries can be made to Kendal Hills Stud at 905-797 2124 or [email protected].
