Rideau Carleton Raceway, in association with the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association, has agreed to a 15 per cent increase in purses through the winter meet which concludes at the end of March
.
RCR comptroller Pete Andrusek says with fewer race dates through the winter months, the increase in purse money is a sensible way to help the horsemen maintain viability until racing returns to its three-nights-a-week schedule at the capital oval.
Commencing April 1, purses will be restored to their original level.
