The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has provided a follow-up report in regard to the case of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) and equine herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) that were reported last week at the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

Following an EHM case confirmed at New Bolton Center last week, eight trace-forward premises (equine locations where horses that may have been exposed at New Bolton returned to before the EHM case was confirmed) and one trace-back premise have been placed under quarantine.

Two barns at New Bolton Center are currently under quarantine; the remainder of the facility is not under formal quarantine following a thorough risk assessment. At New Bolton and the other quarantined premises in PA, monitoring of horses with testing is being implemented in addition to biosecurity precautions.
