The first Standardbred sale of the 2017 season, the January Select Mixed Sale gets underway at 11:00 a.m. in the Meadowlands back paddock.
The January Mixed is billed as the “Winter Racehorse Market” and the 2017 renewal remains true to form. Of the 258 head in the catalogue and supplement, close to 200 are racehorses and racing prospects.
“As of Monday (Jan. 10), racehorses in the sale posted 23 wins in just the last two weeks,” said sale manager David Reid. “Like always, there are horses racing at every level and coming in from everywhere, but this year buyers will notice that the sale is extremely strong in 2017 four-year-olds,” he added.
Those horses include a number of prominent stakes winners from last season, perhaps the most notable among them Breeders Crown elim and Jug elim winner Western Fame p,3,1:50.1h ($453,674), Art Rooney winner Missile J p,3,1:51 ($313,902) and NJSS Final winner Katies Rocker p,3,1:50.3 ($405,069).
Other four-year-olds certainly on buyers’ radar are multiple stakes winners Lagerfeld 3,1:53.2f ($668,621), Dr J Hanover p,3,1:50.1f ($326,773) and Gerries Sport p,3,1:49.2 ($217,246).
“Seven of the four-year-olds in the sale have each earned more than $300,000, so for those in the market for open class and top-condition horses, they’ll fit the bill,” Reid said.
Horses will be in and available for inspection either on Sunday, Jan. 15, or the morning of the sale. The supplement catalogue and updated racelines booklet for Monday’s Meadowlands January Select Mixed Sale are now available on the Tattersalls website and on the Equineline Sales Catalogue app for the iPad.
