Rating patiently despite a howling storm, Toms OK Lady unleashed a storm of her own to blow by the leaders and capture the $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Trot at The Meadows on Thursday afternoon

.

The weather front - complete with lightning, thunder, heavy rain and gusty winds - targeted The Meadows minutes before the Preferred field took to the track. When she fell more than nine lengths behind at the quarter pole, it was unclear if Toms OK Lady could rally successfully under such adverse conditions.

But Dave Palone sent her on a third-over journey that cut the deficit to just over two lengths at the top of the stretch. Toms OK Lady swallowed up Hidden Viggorish and went on to defeat that rival by two lengths in 1:56.1. AJs Baby finished third.

Ron Burke trains Toms OK Lady, a six-year-old daughter of Inquirer - This Gals OK, for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Bethann Palone, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and M1 Stable LLC. It was one of five wins on the 16-race card for Palone.
