“If there was one point that gave me the hope and determination I needed to become a driver, it was probably when I was 16. I drove my own horse, Dans Ideal, in an amateur race and I won it. That was probably the point that changed everything.”
Since Paul Langille's first victory in an amateur race, he has risen to the top of the standings at Truro Raceway, clinching his first driving title with 54 wins in 2015. The 22-year-old Lower Onslow, N.S. reinsman reflected on his season highlights in a recent Truro Daily News article.
“Probably my most memorable win this year was winning the Nova Scotia Stake for two-year-old pacing colts. It was with Preceptor, an Ontario-bred colt foaled in Nova Scotia, that I broke and trained and also a horse owned by my family [Dwayne and Rosanne Langille],” Langille was quoted as saying in the article. “Hopefully, with a little luck, Preceptor will be a good three-year-old. He’s a very quick and versatile colt, which makes him very easy to drive.”
Langille also credited top Truro trainer George Rennison for many of his wins and discussed other highlights that included picking up a catch-drive on Cheering For Charity mare Barona Lilac in Darren Crowe's absence and winning a division of the Carl and Marg Mackenzie Memorial with Woodmere Fullalife for mentor Phil Pinkney.
“I started jogging horses when I was around 12 for Phil Pinkney," said Langille. "The more I was on the track and the faster I went the more I liked it. As a role model I looked up to Phil from a very young age. You can’t help but pick up a lot and learn a lot being around Phil. He’s a great horseman. For sure, Phil Pinkney taught me a lot about harness racing.”
