Wildwild Men was an impressive winner in the opening leg of the Quebec-Bred Series for two-year-old trotters as he romped to a 14-1/2 victory to set a track record at Hippodrome 3R on Wednesday.
Wildwild Men's 2:02.2 winning time was a new track record for two-year-old trotting geldings, taking almost two full seconds off Intouchable's mark.
Leaving from post three in his $7,500 division, the favoured son of Muscle Mass carved out fractions of :30.2, 1:01.4 and 1:32.3 over the "good" track surface before extending his leading margin from three lengths into the double-digits with a :29.4 final frame. The filly trotter Y S Suzanne was second and Red Monster rounded out the top three finishers.
Wildwild Men has two prior wins in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots program and is now three-for-six to start his career with earnings of $27,150.
Robert Shepherd drove the winner for trainer Isabelle Darveau and Quebec owners Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, and Chantal Gravel of St-Cyrille-De-Wendover.
Tuscans Memory and driver Pascal Berube won the other series division in 2:05, converting off a pocket trip to prevail by half a length over favourite Panamas Boy, who had cut fractions of 31.1, 1:03.1 and 1:34.4 to three-quarters. Third prize went to the filly Eau Naturelle, who finished nine lengths behind.
Dany Fontaine trains the homebred Kadabra gelding, who broke his maiden in his third try for Ecurie Gaetan Bono Inc. of Montreal, Que.
