He skipped the first leg of the Glorys Comet series for older trotters, extending a vacation he’d been enjoying since December 18, but when Armbro Chronicle stepped onto the track for the second round of the series last week, he made it clear that he wasn’t just there for a tightener

.

Kent Baker’s seven-year-old gelding, a veteran of 133 starts, trounced his competition by two and a quarter lengths on January 10, in near-blizzard conditions, and in the process brought himself within $16,000 of becoming a millionaire. With a favourable post position for the $90,000 Glorys Comet final on Saturday night, and status as the 2-1 first choice in the morning line, congratulations may well be in order for the connections of Armbro Chronicle, after Race 5 (post time 8:54 p.m.).

First, however, he will have to contend with the likes of Per Henriksen’s Please Poppy, who has been a runner-up in both legs of this series, as well as Tracy Brainard’s entry, Scorpion Moon, who was an authoritative winner in the opening round before letting San Pail squeak by in the stretch, in last week’s sequel. Please Poppy has been given the nod as the second choice at 5-2, while Scorpion Moon is listed at 4-1.

Catch the exciting final of the Glorys Comet series, and perhaps celebrate harness racing’s newest millionaire, tonight at Woodbine.
