Twelve two-year-old trotting fillies will travel to Windsor Raceway this Sunday for the last Trillium Series event of the season, and four of them will arrive in a trailer driven by Wayne Henry.
The Arthur resident will harness two fillies in each Trillium split, and the two-time winner of the Ontario Sires Stakes’ leading trainer award is hoping they are as successful as they were last weekend in London. On Nov. 22 Youre Still Theone and Daylon Mystique captured their Trillium Series divisions at Western Fair Raceway, while Napanee Seelster and Town Hall Babe finished third and fourth.
This week Youre Still Theone and Napanee Seelster will start from Posts 3 and 5 in the third race, while Daylon Mystique and Town Hall Babe get Posts 1 and 5 in Race 4. Youre Still Theone heads into the $35,097 contest on a three race win streak and Henry says the SJs Caviar miss should wrap up her season on a high note.
“She’s just kind of got better as the year went on,” says the horseman, who conditions Youre Still Theone for his partners in the Henry Stable of Arthur, Daniel McCann of Parkhill and Ron and Liz Waples of Guelph. “She’s a nice tidy little mare.”
Through 11 starts Youre Still Theone has posted three wins, one second, and one third for earnings of $34,297.
Stablemate Napanee Seelster has only visited the winner’s circle on one occasion, but the Angus Hall daughter has nearly matched Youre Still Theone in earnings through consistent performances at the Gold Series level.
“She’s a real nice filly. I think she’ll be a nice three-year-old,” says Henry. “She’s a big filly, she just needs the time.”
The Henry Stable, Ron Berry of Ottawa and Alan Bodin share ownership on Napanee Seelster, who has banked $33,524 through 13 starts.
The star of Henry’s freshman trotting filly string has been Daylon Mystique, who tallied five wins, three seconds and two thirds in 14 starts this season for earnings of $177,859. The Amigo Hall miss was an impressive five length winner in the slop at Western Fair last weekend, and Henry says she will enjoy a lighter week than her stablemates after that effort and her sixth-place finish in the rain-soaked Super Final on Nov. 15.
“She’ll just jog. The other three will likely train lightly, not real hard,” says the horseman. “She’s had a good year.”
While Daylon Mystique, who is owned by the Henry Stable and Daniel McCann, has had an exemplary season, Henry says Town Hall Babe has been a headache from the first day she set foot in the barn. Another daughter of Amigo Hall, the filly has a record of four wins, two seconds and two thirds in 14 starts, about 13 more than Henry would have predicted in the spring.
“She’s been a handful. I’m surprised we’ve got this far,” he admits. “She’s just half nuts that one; very temperamental.”
McCann and the Henry’s share ownership on the fractious filly, who banked $67,997 on the Grassroots circuit this summer.
The trainer and his brother Trevor Henry will share driving duties on the fillies at Windsor Raceway on Sunday. The border oval’s first race gets under way at 7 pm and the two-year-old trotting fillies are featured in Races 3 and 4.
