Pink Camo rolled to her fourth straight win in setting a 1:52.4 track mark at Scioto Downs for freshman pacing fillies. Her victory came for driver Tony Hall in the $20,000 Ohio Breeders Stakes.
Made the 1-9 favourite by bettors, Pink Camo grabbed the lead early in the mile and discouraged any challenges with a final mile timed in 1:52.3. Second choice Cating Around tried to launch an attack in the stretch, but Pink Camo simply paced away from her to win by two and a quarter lengths. Igottafeelinfran was third in the record mile.
A daughter of Pine Valley, Pink Camo was developed by owner Tye Loy and driven to victory by him in an Ohio Sires Stakes at Scioto a month ago. That’s when the Burke Stable swept in and purchased the filly in partnership with Weaver-Bruscemi LLC, Jason Melillo and Richard Suda.
Rose Run Nellie was a comfortable winner in the $15,000 Ohio Breeders Stake for sophomore trotting fillies as she recorded her seventh win of the 2012 season for owner-trainer-driver Scott Cox. She was timed in 1:57.1, a new lifetime record for the daughter of Trainforthefuture.
Cox moved her with authority at the half-mile marker and pacesetting Jessica Rayne offered no resistance. Once Rose Run Nellie was in front, she pulled away to win by two and a quarter lengths. Jessica Rayne held for second over Wardon’s Daughter.
Standing Danette was the best in the $17,000 Ohio Breeders Stake for sophomore pacing fillies as she got to the front and shut the tempo down with a second quarter in :30.2. The race was effectively over then. A third quarter in :28.1 and a final panel in :27.3 prevented anyone from catching her after the soft opening half. Special Lady D and Forever Lover, part of a favoured entry from the Brian Brown Stable, tried their best but couldn’t catch the leader. Forever Lover was second with Special Lady D third.
Standing Danette is trained by Jim Arledge Jr. for Sharon Edelman of Gahanna, Ohio. The win was the fifth in a dozen starts this season for the daughter of Stand Forever.
Tu Sei Bella enjoyed a perfect pocket trip behind pacesetting Idol to win the $15,000 Filies & Mares Open with a 1:53 mile for driver Kayne Kauffman. Jim Arledge trains for Bella Racing Ltd. of Columbus, Ohio. The even-money favourite Idol went to the front at the start and withstood an outside attack from Bella Sophia and driver Dan Noble, but was unable to resist when Tu Sei Bella came off her back in the stretch to get up to win by a length.
