Western Drivers Being Determined

British Columbian drivers have until the completion of the local race card on Sunday, November 16 to see if they can win a spot in Fraser Downs' National Driving Championship team.

The three drivers with the best winning strike (September 19, 2008 to November 16, 2008, inc.) will be the top candidates for selection to compete in the Western Regional Driving Championship at Fraser Downs, December 13, 2008.

The top driver from this trio will then go on to the Nationals, which will be raced at Fraser Downs, Saturday, March 21, 2009.

The National Champion Driver will represent Canada at the World Driving Championship in Norway.

The criterion for selection not only includes the number of wins, it also takes into consideration the drivers' interpersonal skills and his or her ability to be a good ambassador for harness racing.

Currently -- as of Thursday, October 23 -- the Fraser Downs drivers in contention are:

Bill Davis - 28 wins
Jim Marino - 17 wins
Scott Knight - 12 wins
Tim Brown - 11 wins
David Hudon - 9 wins
Billy Davis Jr. - 9 wins
Rod Therres - 9 wins

Fraser Downs' director of Racing, Jackson Wittup, will name the BC representatives at the completion of the November 16 card at Fraser Downs.
