'Cocktail' Sweeps Action Broadway Trot

Cocktail Attire completed a stylish series sweep — and established a season’s mark in the process — when she captured The Meadows' $27,400 championship of the Action Broadway Trot for three-year-old fillies

on Wednesday.

In her two previous series wins, Cocktail Attire flashed different styles, taking the first leg with a quarter-pole move and the second with a protracted first-over bid. In the final, however, Tony Schadel sent her right to the front from post six.

“I like her on the front end, but she raced good from behind, too,” said Schadel, who owns the daughter of Broadway Hall-Doitwithclass with the filly’s trainer, Linda Schadel. “I like her wherever she gets away. She’s been good to me.”

Cocktail Attire held off the late charge of the pocket-sitting Komma Ka Z to win by a length in 1:56.3, fastest this year in North America by a sophomore filly on a five-eighths-mile track. Miss Chip K was third.

The Schadels purchased Cocktail Attire at two for $12,000, but turned her out last year after only two starts.

“She was getting a little hot,” Schadel said. “I think she had some aches and pains — that was making her hotter yet. She’s tolerable right now. She has a stake at Freehold, then she’ll go to the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes or the Stallion Series, one of the two. I don’t know if she’s quite up to the sires stakes. I hope she is. She’s done everything right so far.”

Tony Hall drove five winners on the 15-race card, giving him 12 over the last two programs.

Live racing resumes Friday at The Meadows when the card features the $30,400 final of the Tremor Hanover Pace for three-year-old fillies. First post is 6:55 p.m.
