NY Bill Would Usher In Protection For Vernon

According to a report, a senator and assemblyman in the state of New York recently announced that they are backing a bill which would see the protection and expansion of

Vernon Downs.

An article by the Madison County Courier explains that the proposed legislation would ensure that no new standardbred raceway would be able to be built within 75 miles of Vernon Downs.

“The legislation would require that any new harness horse racetrack cannot be located within 75 miles of an existing harness horse racetrack. This legislation will prevent over saturation of the harness horse racetrack industry within a small geographic area of the state which would have a devastating overall effect on neighboring facilities as well as the state and local economies,” Assemblyman William Magee was quoted as saying.

The report explains that Senator Joseph A. Griffo is also backing the bill.
