Put On A Show had no problem turning aside seven foes on Sunday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, as the three-year-old pacing fillies clashed in a single division of the Simcoe Stakes
.
It was to be a group of ten to contest the $235,786 affair, but Western Silk and Rock N Highland bowed out due to sickness, thus leaving just eight lasses to line up for some serious loot.
Put On A Show settled into an early four hole for driver Tim Tetrick while Northwest Hanover sprinted to the quarter pole in :26.4. Tetrick started up the engine on his charge as soon as the field hit the backstretch, and she was up to challenge Northwest Hanover at the mid-way point in :55.2.
Put On A Show muscled to the top and rolled the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:23 before kicking home in :27.4 to win by a three-length margin in 1:50.4. Northwest Hanover held on for the runner-up award, and Ice Ice Baby tagged along to finish third.
"It's super to have her, she's a great competitor,” said trainer Chris Ryder. “With a filly like this, you feel like she's the best every week. She has Lexington and the Breeders Crown remaining, there will be three or four more big races for her this season.”
Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, Put On A Show picked up her ninth win of the season in 11 tries for partners Craig Henderson of Chicago, IL and Richard and Joanne Young of Coconut Creek, FL. The daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Stienams Place now boasts $1,528,291 in lifetime earnings.
