Fans were treated to a track record effort as soon as the curtain lifted on Sunday’s program at St. John’s Raceway thanks to a gate-to-wire score by Coral Sea
.
The two-year-old son of SS Sand Dollar-Secret Diedentity, who was making his first lifetime start, provided fractions of :31, 1:02 and 1:33.4 en route to the 2:05.2 performance. The effort shaved two-fifths of a second off the track record for freshmen pacing colts. The previous mark of 2:05.4 was set by Dontbenervous on October 4, 2009
Owned, trained and driven by Walter Deering, Jr. of Shearstown, NL, Coral Sea was a $2,000 purchase from last year’s Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale.
