Indiana Riverboat Casinos To Dock?

In Indianapolis, the state Senate Appropriations Committee discussed but did not vote on legislation that would allow riverboat casinos to migrate inland.

For a $50 million fee, the casinos could move onto land in the counties where they are located.

An exception would be made in Gary, where two riverboats are located, because one license would be returned to the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The appropriations committee is schedule to vote on the measure this coming Tuesday. If the bill were to pass as written, it could have a heavy impact on racino play at Indiana harness tracks Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs.

The measure is being considered because of fears that coming casinos in Ohio will cost Indiana an estimated $100 million in gambling tax revenue.
