Even-money favourite and O’Brien Award finalist Armbro Chronicle had little problem disposing of seven rivals en route to capturing the final of the Glorys Comet Trotting Series at Woodbine Racetrack

on Sunday afternoon.

Mike Saftic got the driving assignment behind Armbro Chronicle in the $91,100 tilt after Sylvain Filion guided the Kent Baker trainee to back-to-back second-place finishes in the preliminary legs. Saftic made the most of the opportunity.

The eight-year-old son of Self Possessed-Pat Honey shot to immediate command and didn’t look back once he crossed over in front of the field. He laid down panels of :26.2, :56 and 1:25.1 before sprinting home in :28.3 for a mile clocked in 1:53.4. Maple Leaf Buddy was second and third prize went to Macho Lindy.

The 1:53.4 performance equaled the stakes record set by Wide Angle Hanover in the 2007 edition of the Glorys Comet Trotting Series.

Baker shares ownership on the gelding with partners Randy Fielder, Jo Smith and Cal Patterson. The ownership group has watched the charismatic veteran rack up 38 lifetime wins and purse earnings of $1,382,452.
