New Strangles Cases In PEI

Published: November 25, 2020 01:05 pm EST

On Wednesday (Nov. 25) the Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission announced that three new clinical cases of strangles have been verified and are in the same stable as the initial case confirmed on November 6, 2020. These cases were found as part of the testing by the Atlantic Veterinary College under the protocol implemented by the APHRC, Red Shores, and the College.

Testing continues at the affected stable's locations, both of which are quarantined.

Based upon Veterinary advice and direction, racing will continue at Red Shores this weekend, but entries from the impacted stable will not compete as per AVC & APHRC recommendations.

All horsepeople are reminded to remain vigilant and implement appropriate biosecurity measures, and to monitor their horses' temperature twice daily. If any issues may arise please consult your veterinarian immediately until further direction.
