Rose Run Quest Seeks Repeat

Rose Run Quest has top status in the Saturday evening (June 1) Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Red Shores has 11 dashes on tap with a 6:00 p.p. start time. Last year’s Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer finalist Rose Run Quest will leave from Post 5 in the tenth race featured pace with a $2,900 purse at stake. After capturing last week’s preferred event in his first start of 2019, Rose Run Quest will face five able rivals in his bid to return to the winner’s circle. Euchred sports two wins and second from just three starts this season but is shouldered with Post 6 for trainer-driver David Dowling. Doctor Royal was the one to beat in this class the first two weeks of the season but took a week off after finishing fifth on May 18. Gilles Barrieau will drive Doctor Royal for Truro, N.S., trainer Dawn Ellis Abbott.

Back-class is what race analyst Les MacIsaac will pin his selection on as he takes Rose Run Quest to win.

“Rose Run Quest hit another gear up the backstretch last week and never looked back in winning his seasonal debut,” MacIsaac said. “You got to think he would only get better which is scary for his rivals. He's the one to knock off.”

Rounding out the field is Mick Dundee (Don MacNeill), Revenant (Adam Merner) and IC True Grit (Mike McGuigan).

The freshly-minted rivalry resumes in the $2,800 Fillies and Mares Open Pace in race eight on Saturday which will be part of the Drive For Home Series presented by Hillside Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac. Sodwana Bay was dominant in 2018 in the Open Mares ranks but Innocent Kiss unloaded a devastating final quarter last week to find the top prize. Innocent Kiss (Merner) will have rail control for trainer Melissa Rennie while Sodwana Bay has Post 4 for trainer-driver Barrieau. Also in the field is former Open Mare champion Ramblinglily, who ships in from New Brunswick after winning her seasonal debut in the top class at Truro Raceway. Marc Campbell picks up the catch drive behind the Allan Jones-trained winner of $190,000 lifetime.
