On The Ridge ($3.40) followed up a successful season's debut at The Raceway at Western Fair District a week and a half ago with another winning effort on Friday night (January 11) taking the featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot for driver and co-owner Garrett Rooney.
Leaving from post three of seven, Cloud Nine Hanover took control into the first turn and led the single-file field through a soft :30.2 first quarter before On The Ridge made his move. The 3-5 favourite began to advance from third with Liam Needsome tracking his cover past the midway mark in 1:01.1. On The Ridge confronted Cloud Nine Hanover on the backside as they raced by the three-quarters mark in 1:30.2 and wore him down in the stretch to score the half-length victory in 2:00.4 while Liam Needsome and Scene A Magician rallied outside to join the pacesetter in a three-across finish for the runner-up role. Cloud Nine Hanover held on to claim second-place ahead of Liam Needsome and Scene A Magician, who closed from last to finish fourth.
On The Ridge returned $3.40 to win. Richard Carroll trains the six-year-old son of Kadabra while Angela Carroll shares ownership with Rooney, who was a back-to-back winner mid-card as he went on to drive Ateyatefngerslouie ($11.20) to victory for Jeff and Tyler Williamson.
