It’s All About The Experience!

“With owning shares you can still enjoy the experience of ownership but with a lot less expense. For anyone that loves horses or the sport, we would highly recommend it.”

That was one major reason Jennifer Dewaele of London, Ont., got involved in purchasing shares of horses in The Stable earlier this year. She now owns shares in 12 different horses.

Dewaele’s parents, Marion and Jack Rodd purchased their first horse in 1974 and lost the last one in 1980. “They, just like others were first time owners whom knew nothing about the business but it was their love for horses that kept them in the business,” explained Jen.

“Their biggest dream was to have a horse in the Hambletonian. Unfortunately it did not happen. During these years they, as well as my older brother Jeff, learned what they could about the horse business (horse stats, sires, mares). Even after we lost the last one most of the dinner conversations where all about horses. Who went how fast. What sire mated with what mare, to have which baby. My thought was mostly how beautiful they were and how big they can be. But when you are about four feet tall they can be very intimidating.”

Fast forward to the spring of 2018 when Jen’s Dad heard about The Stable through a very good friend. In June of this year, he, Jen and Jeff became shareholders and the three of them make up The 3 JJJS Stable.

Combined, they currently own anywhere from five to 34 shares in 12 different horses. “We have been to most of the races in Canada but unfortunately have not been to see them race in the states...yet,” said Jen.

Some of the top horses include three-year-old trotting colt Lawmaker, who did start in an elimination of the Hambletonian, but unfortunately made a break and didn’t make it to the final. Eighteen days later he redeemed himself with a victory in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes in a season’s best 1:53.3 Lawmaker has five top-three finishes and over $178,000 banked this season. To date over two racing seasons, he has four wins, 12 top-three finishes in 18 lifetime starts and almost $345,000 in earnings.

Along with Lawmaker, The 3 JJJS Stable also has shares in pacing gelding Lincolnjames, two-year-old pacing fillies Hard Eight & Linnea, two-year-old trotting colt Cruisin With Angus, trotting mare Jilona, and a couple of yearlings.

“With only being part of The Stable since June of this year it has been an incredible as well very exciting experience so far,” explained Jen. “Anthony, Amy as well as their whole team have always taken time to answer all our questions/concerns no matter how busy they are. They ensure that all of their clients’ experiences are the highest of professionalism that they can give. We are looking forward to many more years with them.”
