The undefeated Stormont Garcon completed a series sweep of the Majestic Son Trotting Series with a dominating front-end score in the $28,900 final, one of three Series finals for freshmen featured on Sunday’s program at Rideau
Carleton Raceway.
After winning the first four legs, Stormont Garcon and driver Ted McDonald returned to the Ottawa oval to do it once again. The two-year-old Stormont Bronze-Samata colt charged off the gate from Post 7 and reached the lead after a :28.3 first quarter. Stormont Garcon rolled past the half in :58.3 and three-quarters in 1:29.1 before pulling away by three and a quarter lengths to win in a career-best 1:59.2.
Forceful Diva (Darrell Coville) journeyed first-over to finish second and Aristote Duharas (Stephane Brosseau) finished back in third despite enduring broken equipment.
Trained by John MacMillan, Stormont Garcon is now seven-for-seven in his debut season with $35,150 earned for owner/breeder Eric Baker of Long Sault, Ont.
After picking up checks in the Dream Maker Pacing Series at Mohawk Racetrack, Mcaracas returned to Rideau for a maiden breaking score in the $28,400 Boys Of Summer Pacing Series final.
Mcaracas and driver Darrell Covolle claimed the lead from Tank Murdock (Jason Gilchrist) after a :28.3 opening quarter and after reaching the half in :58, the Mcardle-Smooth Latin N colt shook off a challenge from the early front-runner past three-quarters in 1:26.3. In the stretch, Mcaracas drew away by over two lengths to win in 1:56.2.
Sambucca Mystic (Jacques Hebert) closed well to grab second over entrymates Quick And Royal (Jacques Beaudoin) and Tank Murdock.
The win increased Mcaracas’ bankroll to $27,208 for trainer Robert Charron and owners Ecuries Vert Et Blanc Inc. of Pierrefonds, Que. and Gilles Parent of Ottawa, Ont. The bay was a $19,000 purchase at the Harrisburg sale for his connections.
St Lads Trixie extended her win streak to three in the Fiesty Fillies Pacing Series final in a career-best clocking of 1:56.4 for driver John MacDonald and trainer Sebastien Giroux. The Artesian-Tricky Fame miss, who won the previous two legs of the series, took control of the field early on and battled with C Lulujustlikethis (Pat Richer) through panels of :27.2, :55.4 and 1:25.3 before drawing away by over three lengths for the victory.
C Lulujustlikethis stayed for second and Chocolatine (Daniel Martin) closed well for third.
St Lads Trixie, an $8,000 Forest City Select sale purchase for Robert Seguin of Gatineau, Que., now sports a record reading 3-0-2 in six starts. The lion’s share of the $29,050 purse pushed her earnings to $52,249.
In regular racing action, Imjustalittleguy held on by a neck to win his second straight $12,100 Preferred Pace in 1:54.3. Best Show In Town (Guy Gagnon) was the runner-up and Wild Ride Hanover (Jocelyn Gendron) finished third.
Imjustalittleguy scored his sixth win of the season in 18 tries for trainer/driver Ted McDonald and owners Lloyd Stone of Portland and Dr. John Tobin of Elgin, Ont. The seven-year-old son of Armbro Operative-Armbro Velour has won 19 races lifetime and now sports a bankroll totaling $224,676.
