Young Trainer Gets Mainstream Attention

Spotlighting the $100,000 Clash of the Pacific, which takes place this evening at Fraser Downs in BC, The Province has aimed its focus on 19-year-old trainer Amber Lancaster, who will hook 2-1 early favourite Classy Character from Post 7.

Standing five feet 11 inches and with a modeling portfolio in her arsenal, Lancaster has opted to follow her love for the conditioning of standardbreds. Her hope in tonight's 'Clash' is represented by six-year-old Shady Character gelding Classy Character, who is looking to post his fifth consecutive victory under Lancaster's program.

"I did enjoy doing modeling, and even signed with an agency in Vancouver," Lancaster told The Province. "But this was definitely not the path I wanted to follow. The more I worked around horses, the more I focused on them. Now it is every day at the racetrack and I love it. I am doing what I always have dreamed of doing. How good is this?"

"The seven post position is not the best," Classy Character's driver, Tim Brown, was quoted as saying. "It makes his job and mine tougher, but with his speed he has a great chance to win it again."
