Worthen, LeDrew Dominate At Marquis

Trainer Shawn Worthen teamed up with driver Glenn LeDrew to please fans, sending his pupils postward to take four of the seven races carded at Marquis Downs on Saturday.

The Lemberg, Saskatchewan resident who has 122 training wins to his credit sent his first winner, Check Stop, behind the gate in Race 2. LeDrew had the four-year-old gelding on the front-end through panels of :29, :59.3 and 1:28 before sprinting home in :29.4 for the win in 1:57.4.

Joe Soloninko of Wroxton, Sask. owns the bay who romped to a six and a quarter length victory ahead of Phil House (Tyler Redwood) and Kagey Fiddler (Kelly Ducharme). It was his fifth seasonal score in 16 outings.

In the following race, the Worthen trainee To The Stars found herself in the winner's circle after advancing on the early pacesetter Classic Socks (Greg Manning) past the half mile marker in :59. The six-year-old mare set a new lifetime mark of 2:00 with the victory.

Ghost River Lady (Brian Gray) and Als Dream Gal (Clayton Braybrook) were second and third.

The win was her sixth of the year in 16 starts for owners Worthen and LeDrew.

Manwiththebigcigar also put forth a winning effort for in Race 5 for Worthen, who co-owns with Lori Le Drew of Regina and Pat Schultz of Warman, Sask. The seven-year-old pacer notched his seventh win this year in 14 starts with his 1:59.4 triumph.

Worthen and LeDrew closed the card with vigor as "http://trackit.standardbredcanada.ca/?op=QRAP&id=460582">Shadow Promises scored with a wire-to-wire performance in 1:58.2 for owners Gary and Carole Dunbar of Richardson, Sask.

The son of As Promised lead the field through panels of :29, :59.2 and 1:28.2 before putting in a :30 final quarter en route to a five length victory and a new lifetime mark. Dance Me Loose (Marie Brooking) rode the pocket to finish second with Positive Player (Marc Fillion) finishing third.

The five-year-old gelding notched his third win of the season in six outings.
