Warkentin To Call At KD; Promotions Aplenty

Kawartha Downs has announced that Saturday will be customer appreciation night at the Fraserville, Ont. oval and all of the stops are being pulled out.

In addition to an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old trotting fillies and the renewal of the non-winners of a ham sandwich dash -- 'The Cold Cut Classic Redux' -- there will be giveaways and draws for prizes throughout the evening.

Programs will only be $1 and in 200 random programs there will be $2 betting vouchers. Free posters will also be given away to the first 250 fans through the gates. There will be a 'Kidz Zone' and food specials will also be a highlight.

Fans may also have a photo taken with celebrity horse Goodtimes.

Direct from the Meadowlands Racetrack, special guest announcer Ken Warkentin will call the action and will be on hand for a question and answer period starting at 6:00 p.m.

"Last year, Dave Gilders at Kawartha just asked me out of the blue to work the night," Warkentin told Trot Insider.

"They had a pretty nice crowd and it was high-octane fun. A bunch of industry booths were set up and Admirals Express was on display -- this time they have Goodtimes."

Warkentin told Trot Insider that calling at Kawartha was his first full-time gig. Warkentin called races at Kawartha while deejaying for CHEX Radio, prior to stepping into the booth at Flamboro Downs.

"Dave asked me to do it again this year, the staff there is great, hospitality second to none -- you can't beat that," said Warkentin, who says that Kawarthas are like a second home to him.

To finish off what promises to be a fun-filled and action-packed evening, there will be a fireworks show following the races.

First race post time is 7:00 p.m.
