Fields were set today for two $65,475 eliminations for the 54th Cane Pace to be run Saturday, August 23. The top four finishers in each elimination will advance to the $392,850 final held on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.
Heading the field of the first elimination is the Battle of Brandywine winner Badlands Nitro (5-2) and Major General (7-2). Both horses paid the $35,000 supplemental fee to enter the race.
Badlands Nitro is trained by George Teague, Jr. who trained 2006 Cane Pace winner Total Truth. Teague also has Rudy Rednose (10-1) competing in the second elimination.
Erv Miller trains Major General, who was second in the Battle of Brandywine Consolation and second in the Adios, and also sends out Lis Deo (6-1) in the second elimination.
In the second elimination, also supplementing into the race, is Meadowlands Pace winner Art Official (2-1). In the Meadowlands Pace, his 1:47 clocking was the fastest mile in history for a three-year-old pacer and the second fastest race mile of all time. Trained by Joe Seekman, Art Official will try to be the first Meadowlands Pace winner to also take the Cane Pace since On The Road Again did it in 1984.
