The second annual Trot Canada National Handicapping Championship is set to go tomorrow night at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Players from across the country will be vying for the title of Top Handicapper as well as the $25,000 grand prize.
There is a broad array of players competing in this nationwide initiative. The field of 43 finalists includes players from coast-to-coast and all walks of life; from the 21-year-old construction worker to the banker from BC. They are all headed to Woodbine for the same reason: the chance to take home a $25,000 grand prize.
The Trot Canada Handicapping Championship is a nationwide initiative aimed at fans and horseplayers. Over a period of eight months, starting in March and ending last weekend, racetracks and industry organizations across Canada hosted qualifying events that enticed thousands of entrants. The Championship is limited to players who earned their way in through a qualifying event at a racetrack, teletheatre and via online contests.
With a few players returning from the 2007 edition, most of the faces for this Championship will be new, including nine female competitors. In addition there are two husband wife duos that will be competing against each other in a battle of the sexes!
The Championship will feature mythical wagers on 20 standardbred races from across Canada. The person with the highest bankroll at the end of the evening will take home the $25,000 prize. Cheques will also be issued for people finishing second through fifth with total prize money of $34,000.
