Trainer Brent MacGrath reports that pacing phenom Somebeachsomewhere was in fine form after a Friday training trip at Flamboro Downs in preparation for Sunday's Confederation Cup.
"He's great, in good spirits and ready for tomorrow," MacGrath told Trot Insider. "The track was in excellent shape and had a great cushion."
This year's North America Cup winner, Somebeachsomewhere hasn't started in a pari-mutuel event on a half-mile track since August of last year when he captured the $300,000 final of the Battle of Waterloo at Grand River Raceway. But MacGrath notes that the horse trained down at two and three at Truro's half-miler and has no issues with two turn tracks.
"He gets around Flamboro better than Truro, I can say that," said MacGrath.
With the task of two heats likely ahead of him, MacGrath varied 'Beach's' regimen little this past week.
"I trained him a double-header this week. He likes the work."
One notable advantage for MacGrath and Co. going into Sunday's 32nd edition of the Confederation Cup is driver Paul MacDonell, who leads all drivers with four Cup tallies to his credit.
