The Hambletonian champ Deweycheatumnhowe kept his perfect record in tact after a 1:54 track record performance at Vernon Downs on Friday.
Trainer/driver Ray Schnittker was in no rush with the three-year-old Muscles Yankee – Trolley Square colt as he took him to the back in the field of five. Dewey floated on the outside for the first three-quarters of a mile before slipping into the two-hole behind leader Summertime Yankee (Jim Raymer) at the 1:25.2 third marker.
Down the stretch, Dewey popped the pocket and trotted strongly to his sixteenth straight victory for Schnittker, winning by eight lengths in 1:54.
Taking home the lion's share of the $30,000 purse boosted Deweycheatumnhowe's bank account to $1,954,580 for owners Schnittker, Theodore Gewertz, Charles Iannazzo, and Deweycheatumnhowe Stable.
