With a massive arsenal of collectibles and a longtime passion for the sport, 76-year-old horse racing fan Shirley Stuckey truly loves watching the races at Edmonton's Northlands Park -- be it thoroughbred or standardbred.

Yesterday, Curtis Stock of The Edmonton Journal shone the spotlight on Stuckey in a long write-up. Stuckey's large collection of horse racing collectibles was explored, plus her favourite past time of going to the track -- visiting the horses and enjoying the action.

"If I didn't have horse racing, I don't know what I would do," Stuckey said. "I guess I'd have to find something, but I don't know what that would be."

Stuckey explained that she first got hooked via the thoroughbreds, but, after watching them, also got right into standardbred racing at the Edmonton complex.

"I didn't use to like harness racing. I went a few times and I felt that I could only see the carts and the harness. That I couldn't see the horses. But then one day it changed."

Stock explains in his piece that Stuckey does not want to see live standardbred racing leave Northlands. "I'll miss them. I really will. It's a shame, isn't it?"
