Standardbred Horse Sale Continues

Today marks Day 3 of the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The six-day sale will be offering its final yearling session today, as hip numbers 765 through 1,137 will pass through the ring.

The highlight of yesterday's session (Day 2) was when Tony Alagna -- of Steger, Illinois, who was acting as agent -- signed the sales slip for Two Timer, an Andover Hall daughter that topped Day 2 as a $180,000 buy.

Two Timer is the second foal out of Gracious Marla, a Malabar Man sister to the dam of Snow White (1:52.4 - $1,443,551).

A total of 364 horses sold in Day 2 for a gross of $10.5 million. The average was $28,846. In 2007, the sale's second-day average rang in at $36,187.

Muscle Massive, a full brother to Muscle Mass (1:53.4 - $229,000), topped the Monday session (Day 1) when trainer Jimmy Takter bid $425,000 to land him. Muscle Massive is by Muscles Yankee and out of Graceful Touch.

A total of 368 yearlings went through the ring on Day 1, resulting in a gross of $16,167,200 and an average of $44,039. In 2007, the opening-day average was $62,361. In 2006, the opening-day average was $54,178.

A total of 731 horses have been sold through the first two sessions for an average price of $36,493. The two-day average is down 25 per cent from the same period in '07, which saw an average price of $49,091.
