Spam Spade coasted to one-length victory in the $100,000 final of the Charles I. Smith this afternoon at Freehold Raceway.
The Smith was restricted to New Jersey-sired three-year-old trotters and is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

The son of Dream Vacation [$2.60, $2.20, $2.10] trotted the mile in 1:57.4, holding off a pair of Yankee Glide sons, Star Ledger [$3.40, $3.00], second by a length, and Native Yankee [$3.20], third by two lengths.
Spam Spade -- who holds the Freehold track record for three-year-old trotting geldings with his 1:55.4 effort on August 15 in the opening round of the New Jersey Sire Stakes -- also won the $85,000 NJSS final on September 5.
After a second-place finish in the Old Oaken Bucket at Ohio's Delaware County Fair, he moved on to Lexington's Red Mile where he won a $106,200 division of the Bluegrass.
Spam Spade, bred by Perretti Farms of Cream Ridge, NJ, now has six wins and two seconds from 13 starts for $192,990 in 2008 earnings toward a career total of $206,020.
