Silent Swing, the even money favourite, used a perfect pocket-trip to nose out last week's winner, Hyperion Hanover, in the $50,000 Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack tonight.

In the card's opener, the six-year-old gelding by Northern Luck and driver Paul MacDonell settled in second from Post 5 as the 8-5 second choice, Hyperion Hanover (Rick Zeron), hustled to the lead from Post 6 and posted a brisk :25.4 first quarter.

Activator (Randy Waples) made a first-over challenge, but failed to reach the front end as Hyperion Hanover led the field through a :55.2 half and a 1:23 third quarter.

As the field turned for home, Mr Saratoga (Ron Pierce), who was travelling second-over, popped out, but Silent Swing swung into action and swept on by the pacesetter for the win in 1:50.1 by a nose. Escapable Beau (Jody Jamieson) came on for third.

Silent Swing, who is co-owned by David Shea of Campbellville, Ont. and Reginald Petitpas of Shediac Bridge, N.B., boasts 30 lifetime wins and $1,236,889 in purse earnings.
