On Saturday night, Sudbury Downs featured the second leg of the Young Guns Series and a pair of Scooter Scott geldings took home the winner's share of the $8,000 purses.
In the first of two $8,000 divisions, Taurus The Bull (Michael Dowling) led the field comfortably through panels of :29.4, 1:01.1 and 1:31.2. The post time favourite managed to hold off a late charge from Fantasy Diamond (Darryl Munro) for the win in 2:01.2 by a neck. Glacier (Paul MacLean) was third.
The five-year-old son of Scooter Scott picked up his third consecutive win and seventh of the season for trainer and owner Leonard Anderson of Roscommon, Michigan.
In the second division, Acton Kuddly (Paul MacLean) led the field through panels of :29.2 and :59.1, as Rush Rules (Rick Shakes) began to advance on the outside. Town Artist (Mario Rivest) took over the lead before the 1:28.4 third quarter mark, but Rush Rules paced on for the win in 1:59. Shaws Creek Spirit (Michael Noble) and Lenny Briscoe (Paul Cameron) were second and third.
The four-year-old gelding is trained by Shakes for Robert Truman of Harbor Springs, Michigan. He is a seven-time winner with earnings totaling $24,062.
In other racing action, Armbro Edward captured the $9,000 Preferred Trot at Sudbury.
Leaving from post two, Armbro Edward (Justin Turcotte) took command of the field through opening panels of :30.2 and 1:02.2. The Balanced Image gelding put away challenger Power Earl (Robert Coursol) after the 1:33.3 third quarter mark and sprinted home in :29.3 for the win in 2:03.1.
Donald Rankin (Paul MacLean) was a length behind in second and E L Gary (Mario Rivest) rounded out the top three. Power Earl was refunded due to broken equipment.
Turcotte trains the four-year-old trotter who has earned almost $72,000 for Norbert Haesen of Berlin, Germany.
