The Times Herald-Record has quoted Deweycheatumnhowe's co-owning trainer Ray Schnittker as saying that politicians should be paying more attention to EPO in racehorses and that steroids don't work.
The article states that Schnittker applauds that racing commissions and politicians are dealing with the steroid issues in horse racing, but that EPO is the bigger issue.
"I really don't think steroids work," said Schnittker. "It's a crock, and the politicians just jump aboard because they don't know what they are talking about. They should be testing for EPO, but it's too expensive. That's what they should catch people doing."
The report goes on to state that Schnittker said he hasn't legally used anabolic steroids on a horse in more than 15 years and that he doesn't think the drugs work on racehorses.
