Repeat Winners In Middlesex Trotting Series

The second leg of the Middlesex Trotting Series headlined Western Fair Raceway's Saturday night card with repeat winners and favourites prevailing in most of the $9,000 divisions.

In rein to Don McElroy, Disappearing Act recovered from an early miscue to win her fillies and mare division three-quarters of a length ahead of the pacesetter, Trottingnstriking (Don Dupont). I Dream of Reba (Brad Forward) rode the pocket for third.

The 4-5 favourite by Kadabra notched her fourth straight win and lifted her bankroll to over $22,000 in a clocking of 2:05 for trainer Stephen Bossence and the Lee Barton Enterprises Ltd. of Edmonton, Alta.

Another 4-5 favourite, Sudden Splendor, prevailed in her division for owner and trainer Gary Brown.

Dave Wall guided the winner of almost $19,000 by Malabar Maple to victory after advancing from third at the half to capture her second win in the series by four lengths in a clocking of 2:04.2. Ms Suzie Q (Brad Moore) was second and Lexis Berney (Brad Forward) was placed third.

The 8-5 second choice, Miracle Jan, broke her maiden in another split for fillies and mares with Brad Forward in the bike for trainer Mike Pennington and the PBR Systems Group of Freelton, Ont.

The Yankee Paco miss, who has earned over $10,000 in purses, endured first-over pressure from Jayportlookatme (Phil Belore) throughout the middle panels before holding off a late rush from Nevada Du Ruisseau (Ross Battin). Miracle Jan prevailed by half a length in 2:03.3 with Nevada Du Ruisseau finishing second and Jayportlookatme settling for third.

In the first colts and geldings division, Stormont Yeltsin and driver Ross Battin survived a first-over trip to win by two and a half lengths in 2:04.3 with Itdbemypleasure (Al Carroll) following in second and Rebel Strike (Garrett Whelan) finishing third.

The son of Kadabra, who was sent postward as the 3-5 favourite, snatched his second win in the series for trainer and co-owner James McKague and Robert Hammell of Wingham, Ont. He has earned almost $12,000 in his career.

Corkemup and driver Dale Fritz rallied from off the pace to take the final division for the boys by a neck in 2:01.4 after the pacesetter Solly Shower faded to fourth. Kilmartin Brother (Brad Forward) was second and In The Proverbials (Bruce Richardson) rounded out the top three.

The 2-1 second choice extended his win streak to four with his second victory in the series. Corkemup has banked over $27,000 in his career for trainer Randy Fritz and co-owners Joey and James Ayotte of Grimsby, Ont.
