Red Star Hottie beat out her fellow Canadian owned and sired rivals in the $17,420 Arbutus Stake for three-year-old fillies at Fraser Downs on Saturday night.
The As Promised miss was sent straight to the lead by trainer and driver Brent Beelby from Post 4. Red Star Hottie set the pace with panels of :27.4, :58 and 1:26.1 before sprinting home in :28.1 for the win in 1:54.2.
Doober Hoozzitz (Serge Masse) finished three and a half lengths back in second and Beelby's Red Star Diamond (David McKellar) was third. Der Bingle (Jim Marino) rounded out the field in fourth.
The bay filly, who is owned by Robert Murphy of Surrey, B.C. improved her record to 6-4-1 in 15 starts. Her lifetime earnings total $77,787.
In other action, Classy Character took his second consecutive $17,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs for 19-year-old trainer Amber Lancaster in wire-to-wire fashion.
Driven by Timothy Brown, the six-year-old gelding by Shady Character posted the opening panels of :27.2 and :57.1 before facing a challenge from Canaco Nolton (Bill Davis) going into the third quarter in 1:24.4. Classy Character kicked it into gear and pulled away by over a length in the stretch to win in 1:53.1.
Father Knows Best (Jim Marino) finished second with Stonebridge Camelot (Bill Davis, Jr.) coming on for third. Canaco Nolton faded to fourth.
Sandra Brown of Langley and Jack Thompson of Burnaby, B.C. co-own the winner of nine races this season. Lifetime, Classy Character has visited the winner's circle 18 times and has earned $189,083.
