Blue Star Ruler and trainer/driver Michael Hennessy ruled Grande Prairie's half mile oval on Sunday setting a track record with a tremendous 1:56.2 wire-to-wire trip.

The son of As Promised blazed ahead of the field from Post 5, posting fractions of :29, :57.4 and 1:27. Double Tough (driven by Rene Goulet) finished 18 lengths back in second. Red Star Popeye (Ryan Grundy) rounded out the top three.

Blue Star Ruler, a four-year-old gelding, scored his fifth lifetime win for owners Rodney Hennessy, Millet-Lorne Duffield and Jean Crochetiere of Alberta.

Hennessy also guided stablemate Schmokin Shannon A to a wire-to-wire victory this past weekend. On Saturday in a $5,000 claimer, the nine-year-old son of Albert Albert equaled the previous track record of 1:56.3 set by Panquerayandtonic last July.

The bay gelding was claimed by the Hennessys earlier this year. He sports a record of 24-20-22 in 161 starts with $122,750 in earnings.
