Last night at Ocean Downs, three-year-old CR Commando filly Juanita won her eighth seasonal race from her ninth start, equaling the track and Maryland Standardbred Race Fund Trot record in the process.
The 1:58.2 performance equaled the marks set August 21, 2002 by three year-old Yankee Maxi.
Driven, owned and bred by Jim Morand, Juanita, a Les Givens-trained filly, has banked over $150,000 this year and in excess of $327,000 lifetime.
In the Wednesday contest, Juanita earned the lead before the half and didn't look back, eventually recording a two and a half-length victory.
"She's always been real little, but she's had a lot of heart," Les Givens son Brandon told the Ocean Downs publicity department.
