Gusty Volo and Canuck Luck took home top prize in their respective Preferred assignments earlier this evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and both did so in upset fashion.
Gutsy Volo and trainer/driver Robbie Robinson pulled off a mild upset in the $13,400 Preferred Trot, winning in a time of 1:56.3.
The four-year-old son of Yankee Glide rallied from third over to win the $13,400 affair in a time of 1:56.3 for owners Brian Cassell, Jacqueline Dinelle and Sean Hibbert.
The gelding, who was sent off as the 3-1 second choice in the wagering, fended off runner-up Rate Exchange and third-place finisher Samaras Wonder for his 11th win of the season in just 17 tries.
The lion's share of the purse bumps his lifetime earnings to $64,430.
Canuck Luck turned in an 11-1 shocker in the $13,400 Preferred Pace, winning in a time of 1:54.4 for the duo of trainer Gabriel Beaumont and teamster Stephane Gendron.
The six-year-old son of Northern Luck, who was the longest shot on the board in the five-horse affair, used a powerful rally to win by three lengths over Au Revoir Ace. Kublai Pan recovered from an early miscue to finish third.
Ferme Gabe Inc. of Mirabel, Que. holds the papers on the 24-time winner, who went over $150,000 in lifetime earnings with the win.
