ORC conducting inquiry into August 13 qualifying race at Georgian Downs

The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) is conducting an inquiry into the circumstances of the qualifying race involving the horse ANDERLECHT, held on August 13, 2008 at Georgian Downs. The role played by all officials in the staging of the race will be part of this inquiry.

Concerned over the circumstances surrounding the qualifying race, and in accordance with the Rules of Racing, on August 16, 2008 the ORC filed an official protest with the Judges at Flamboro Downs with respect to the eligibility of the horse ANDERLECHT to race in the Confederation Cup. The Judges accepted the protest, and made a decision to allow the horse to race, with the provision that all purse monies involving ANDERLECHT would be held pending the results of the ORC inquiry.

This open and accountable action will ensure that the public interest is protected and that any appropriate actions can be taken as a result of what is learned from the inquiry. The ORC is committed to fulfill its mandate of integrity, honesty, and social responsibility.

John L. Blakney, Executive Director

Ontario Racing Commission
