Not Your Ordinary Night At Mohawk

Perhaps a full moon tonight at Mohawk Racetrack had something to do with a few uncommon occurrences including a major upset, a refund due to outside interference and a dead heat win finish.

In race six, the $20,000 Metro Prep, Bay Of Sharks (Mario Baillargeon) produced WEG's biggest upset of the season going off at 125-1.

The two-year-old son of Cams Card Shark left hard from post nine to secure the early lead in a :27.2 opening quarter. Well Said (Jody Jamieson) took command of the field through panels of :54.3 and 1:25.1 as Bay Of Sharks was shuffled back to third, but kicked it back in gear down the stretch to score in 1:53.1 by a neck.

Well Said was the runner up and Going Native (Tim Tetrick) got third.

The Ben Wallace trainee picked up his second lifetime win for owners Michael and Sam Sergi of Canton, New York.

In the fifth race, four horses were refunded as a result of a flock of geese that flew from the infield into the path of the horses at the quarter pole.

Dedalos (Luc Ouellette), who was leading, made a break after being spooked by the geese.

Landfairsfirstmach (Mark MacDonald), who was sitting sixth, also got spooked and broke. He caused interference to Kinetic Yankee (Andy Miller) and Tinys Million (Jody Jamieson).

Unaffected by the incident, Raw Energy (Paul MacDonell) prevailed for the win. Ironically, the geese faired well for Goose Creek (Mike Saftic) who finished second and Almost No More Bs (Jack Moiseyev) who was third.

In the evening's 12th race, Eagle On It (Sylvain Filion) and Alte Kakker (Tim Tetrick) crossed the wire together in a time of 1:52.2. Joshua Park (Pat Hudon) rounded out the top three.
