Ohio Hall of Fame horseman Sam "Chip" Noble of Xenia won two of the five Ohio Sires Stakes splits contested during a steady downpour Friday at Scioto Downs.
Both wins for Noble were with two-year-old trotting fillies and each carried a purse of $20,400.
Noble scored in the second race behind Mocha Jo, who led all the way and then held off a late challenge from Get Chipped to prevail by a length in a time of 2:01.4 over the sloppy track. Shady Chip was third.
Mocha Jo is by Chip Chip Hooray out of Jos Gesture.
Noble came back to win the tenth race with Allthatnabagofchip. Once again, he led all the way and had to stave off a determined rush in the homestretch by Chippednstrawberry. Noble's filly won by a neck in 2:04 with Northmedo Esther third.
The winner is another daughter of Chip Chip Hooray and her dam is Cynthia Iliad.
Noble scored a third driving victory on Friday with the trotting mare Hooray For Mom in an overnight.
There were three divisions of two-year-old pacing fillies in Ohio Sires Stakes action and they went to Best Of Ball (Presidential Ball – Ms Mulan) in 1:57.4 for driver Jack Dailey; Amazing Towner (Towners Big Guy – Amazing Sahbra) in 1:58.2 for Kurt Sugg; and Samantha Myrt (Nobleland Sam – Myrts Miss Kalfas) in 1:59.4 for Russell Swartz. Each of these races carried a $20,000 purse.
