With only six entrants, there will be no elimination races this week for the $100,000 Charles I. Smith Trot at Freehold Raceway.
All six advance to the final on Friday, October 24.
The Charles I. Smith, named for a harness racing pioneer and a founder of the New Jersey Sire Stakes program, is for New Jersey-sired three-year-old trotters. It is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.
Three of the six entrants are prepping in a $10,000 three-year-old trot, the 11th race on October 17 at Freehold. They are the William Vandervort-trained and co-owned Ringside Muscle, the Ray Remmen-conditioned Native Yankee and Shutter Boy, who is owned, trained and driven by George Dennis.
The other three finalists are Spam Spade, Star Ledger and the lone filly, Sierra Marvel.
