Pompano Park track record holder Tweedle Dum led from the quarter to score his ninth straight win in Wednesday’s $13,500 Open Trot in 1:55.1 for driver Walter Ross Jr.
The race started off with Battleshoe Victor (Anthony Napolitano) going right to the lead from Post 6, but that was short lived as Ross had Tweedle Dum in high gear and they took command by the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
After the half in :57.2, Wally Hennessey came first-over with Gale Warning and they attacked Tweedle Dum, pushing the field to the three-quarters in 1:25.3. Gale Warning, however, went off-stride on the final turn and caused interference to the rest of the field, allowing Tweedle Dum to breeze home an easy three and three-quarter length winner.
A career winner of 53 races from 152 starts, Tweedle Dum is the fastest trotter in the history of the Isle Pompano Park, having tied the former track record of 1:53.2 in 2007. In 2006, the gelded son of Star Challenge was the winningest trotter in North America with 21 victories, also a track record.
Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter of Pompano Beach own the eight-year-old gelding, who is returning from a ten-month layoff due to injury.
