Nasty Spill At Colonial Downs

Published: October 12, 2008 09:55 am EDT

The Sunday afternoon program at Colonial Downs was the scene of a five-horse pileup, which sent drivers Corey Braden and Todd Ratchford to hospital.

Braden suffered an injured ankle and Ratchford sustained a laceration on his knee.

Kyle Ater, Chris Page and Devan Miller were also thrown in the spill. Ater took off the rest of the card but appeared to avoid serious injury. Page and Miller both drove the rest of the afternoon.

The pileup began when Twenty Six Shooter stumbled and fell near the five-sixteenths pole, catapulting Page into the rail. Scoot Outa Dodge, Pink Sweater, Awesome Way and Polo Johnny all lost their drivers in the ensuing traffic jam.

All five horses walked off the track.
