Yesterday during New York Sire Stakes action at Monticello Raceway, driver Jim Morrill, Jr. triumphed in four of six divisions, including a win with Duane Marfisi-trained On The Brink.
"I had a pretty good day," Morrill said modestly when the racing had finished.
Bulletproof Enterprises' Final Curtain romped in the first $39,864 division. The son of Pro Bono Best cruised through fractions of :27:2, :55:2 and 1:24:4 and finished in a time of 1:54:2, 16 lengths ahead of his nearest rival.
Trainer Kevin McDermott, whose enjoying a big season at the Meadowlands Racetrack, was on hand to watch his pupil in action.
"Right now, off his [Final Curtain's] 1:48:2 win [at the 'Big M'] in late May, he's he fastest three-year-old in the country, one tick faster than Somebeachsomewhere's win Saturday at the Meadowlands. But we don't expect that mark will stand for long," McDermott laughed.
Morrill was again victorious in the second NYSS split when he guided On The Brink to a stunning come-from behind head victory over heavily favoured Corner Blitz in 1:54:3.
"He's [On The Brink] in down [in company] from where he was racing at Mohawk in Canada," Morrill said about the Dream Away colt. "He faced some nice colts today but certainly not the calibre he was racing recently in Canada."
Morrill came right back to win the third split with Lislea gelding Lislea Miles in a time of 1:54:4.
In the fourth division, Art Major colt Riggins and trainer/driver Ray Schnittker gunned out for the lead and eventually paced to a five-length victory in 1:54:1.
Morrill again found himself in the winners circle after he steered Cessna Flight to a 1:56:3 victory in the fifth split.
Bill Bailey won the final split with Pembroke Dandy in a 1:57 clocking.
