A smorgasbord of stakes were contested at Hippodrome de Montreal on Sunday, as two and three-year-olds duked it out in divisions of the Elite and Distinction Stakes.
The richest events of the day came in the form of two $35,000 divisions of the Elite Stakes for rookie trotting fillies.
Farah Modan, who broke her maiden one week ago at the Quebec oval, took the opening split in a career-best clocking of 2:02.1 for trainer Dominique Cloutier and driver Denis Filion. The Promising Catch rallied from just off the pace to pull off the 17-1 upset over the odds-on favourite, Quelene Bayama, and Jojo Bingbing.
Ferme Modan of Mirabel, QC bred and owns the career winner of $30,455.
Bel D Erable had her picture taken for the first time following a 2:03.3 score in the second division for trainer/driver Dustin Jones. The daughter of A Js Tycoon got up in the final strides en route to defeating Melody Mystique and SOS Daydreamer.
Owned by the Dustin Jones Stables Inc. of Melbourne, QC, Bel D Erable bumped her bankroll to $20,500 with the win.
In other action on the matinee program, Quartz Bayama (1:57) and Onyx V A (1:55.4) won their respective $25,000 divisions of the Elite Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
M C Felix (2:01) and Tsunami Dream (2:01.4) were popular winners in the pair of $15,000 divisions of the Distinction Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings.
$12,000 – 3CT Three-year-old trotting colts and geldings squared off in a set of $12,000 Distinction Stakes divisions for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, with Rockin To Do (2:00.3) and Let Me Dream (2:01) prevailing in their respective assignments.
LM Khayam (1:56) and Qualico Mystic (1:55.2) found their way to victory lane in the $12,000 Distinction Stakes splits for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
