Mind Boggling was forced to make multiple moves in Friday’s $44,000 Mares Open at Woodbine Racetrack, but that didn’t stop her from finding the winner’s circle for WEG’s leading driver, Jody Jamieson.
Jamieson rolled Mind Boggling to the quarter pole in :27 seconds before releasing O’Brien Award winner Hana Hanover to the position of command.
Mind Boggling was out and driving as soon as the field hit the backstretch, and it didn’t take the four-year-old daughter of Cambest very long to re-establish the lead.
She zipped past the mid-way point in :56 seconds and then sprinted around the final to get a jump on her fellow distaffers. The three-quarter pole fraction flashed up in 1:23.3 for Mind Boggling, who used a :28 second final frame to hold on by a quarter of a length.
Hana Hanover re-emerged from the pocket in the stretch to grab the runner-up award while To Helen Back, who was first-over in the final half of the mile, had to settle for third.
Darren McCall conditions the 11-time winner for Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Mentally Stable Inc. of Delray Beach, FL. The mare has banked in excess of $406,000 in her career.
In other Friday evening action at the Mega City oval, the white hot Showmethefame extended his win streak to six-in-a-row for the tandem of driver Mark MacDonald and trainer Casie Coleman.
The four-year-old son of Apaches Fame survived a first-over journey to win in a time of 1:52.1 for Coleman, who co-owns the photogenic gelding with partner Ken Fraser of Ayr, ON.
The pacer won for the 12th time this season and for the 17th time in his career.
