Malabar Man will be personally inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame on the evening of Sunday, July 6. It is only the second time a horse honouree has been present for the induction ceremony.
The first horse personally inducted was Niatross, who received his honour in 1997.
Malabar Man, who was bred, owned and driven by amateur harness racing driver Mal Burroughs, is the winner of many of the world's premier trotting races including the Hambletonian, the World Trotting Derby, the Bluegrass Stake and Italy's Orsi Mangelli.
Malabar Man will not only receive the sport of harness racing's highest accolade, he will also be awarded a huge bunch of delicious Orange County carrots, served on a silver platter, and surrounded by more than 300 well wishers; all under the famous tents on the museum lawn.
The event, at the Harness Racing Museum in Goshen, will also welcome racetrack master Charles 'Chuck' Coon and mega-owner Lou Guida. Also receiving honours are 'Sonny' Werblin, Murray Janoff and Alan Prince. Other standardbreds getting Hall of Fame status are Amour Angus, Camluck, Rosemary and Silk Stockings.
Hall of Fame ceremonies begin at 5:00 p.m. with the official opening of the museum's latest exhibition, 'The Kentucky Connection,' followed by a cocktail reception and dinner. The award ceremonies follow at approximately 8:00 p.m.
The museum will open at 10:00 a.m. on Hall of Fame Day, Sunday, July 6. The last tour is at 4:00 p.m. United States Trotting Association sponsorship provides for free admission to the facility and includes a ride on the world's only 3-D harness racing simulator.
